October turned my maple's leaves to gold;

토머스 베일리 올드리치 Thomas Bailey Aldrich (1836-1907)

미국의 시인, 단편소설 작가, 편집자. 뉴햄프셔 주의 포츠머스에서 태어났다. 소년 시절의 추억을 바탕으로 쓴 시집 The Story of a Bad Boy(1870)로 널리 알려져 있다. 13세에 학교를 그만두고 뉴욕에서 점원일을 보면서 여러 신문과 잡지에 기고하기 시작한다. 1855년에 첫 시집 The Bells 출판. 이어 The New York Evening Mirror지에 들어가 젊은 문학비평가로 활동한다.

 

1881년에서 1890년까지는 The Atlantic Monthly의 편집자 일을 보았다. 중요한 시집으로는 Cloth of Gold(1874), Flower and Thorn(1877), Mercedes and Later Lyrics(1884), Windham Towers(1890) 등이 있고 가장 잘 알려진 산문으로는 단편소설집 Marjorie Daw and Other People(1873)이 있다.
