Some years ago, in a monthly magazine there was a word about changing your life. In this article, there were 38 people of fame. And it told of their lives and their pasts. How can these wonderful people of fame be what they are today? That is, by looking at their difficult pasts. Their difficult times, they met someone by the mercy of the Lord. Especially someone has thrown these words of encouragement to them to give them this great strength and courage to energize their lives. So, now this is what they are. This was the kind of story it was.
Someone, while they were students in school, the teacher complimented this backward student. Then this student was able to progress to be an honor student. And another student, while in school was complimented by their teacher and they were then able to find their own special gift.
Everyone has a different story. But if we see the common points of their lives, they all met a good teacher. Or especially, when their lives were so difficult and they were at such a low level, they met a teacher who gave encouragement. This was so important in their lives. And this article tells us these important stories so that we are able to realize them.
Among these people there was a minister from the Suwon Baptist Church. Kuk, Dong which is Christian Broadcasting Channel. This was Pastor Kim, Jang Hwan brought to my eyes through this story.
When he was in his first year of High School he was a house boy on an American Military Base. At that time the country was at war. 6.25.
The country was completely devastated. So the school was closed and the students were spread all over the area. In these circumstances he became the house boy on the American base.
By the help of a soldier, he was eventually able to go to the US to restart his education.
So the problem is that he had to make a huge decision. He went to the states, but found it to be very difficult because of the language. Yes, his encouragement was up very high. “I want to do that and I can do that” but he was only able to speak a couple words of English.
One day, while in his boarding school, he met one friend. This friend told him this.
“Ask Jesus for help!” “If you ask Jesus for help, he will take responsibility for your life”
Pastor Kim, in retrospect found this word to be how he was encouraged. This was where he got his strength. Even up to now, he really remembers this event clearly.
So, since that time, he started to study with a firm resolve.
So, finally as time went on, in his second year of high school he was top in his school in public speaking competition. This gave him more confidence and he was able to compete in National competitions to take first place. Then he received praise from President Eisenhower.
At that time, he really knew.
Just a couple words were all he could speak, and he was working as a house boy on a US Base. And it was only his dream and his courage he had with him as he came to the states. Look at me now. I am here, and there was a time when a friend gave me these words that gave me such a good result...
Ask Jesus for help! If you ask Jesus for help, he will take responsibility for your life.
In today’s scripture, the words of Jesus come to us. Jesus says these words.
Especially inviting words
Matthew 11:28-30
28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Just hearing this in your ears, this can bring great peace and comfort. But I have not even gone near the lord yet.
Everyone knows of this old man with a beard standing in front of the restaurant. You all know this old guy in front of Kentucky Fried Chicken.
This person is the man who first made KFC. Colonel Harland Sanders. He was not the first person to start a business and become a person of fame. But like today’s word, he received this special invitation from Jesus. Then he met Jesus and he began his new life for us to bear witness to.
Like today, on a cool fall day in 1890, September 9th he was born. He lived his life working very hard. And every time he attempted something it didn’t work out and he just lost money. Living so hard, he finally went broke when he was 60 years old.
Like this, his businesses had failed. At his age, his life was very difficult and felt like his life was empty. Because he had been working so hard but he only thing he had left was about $100,000 in debt. In all these difficult circumstances and compared to how hard he worked, this pain was unbearable to him.
So, he finally had to stay in a hospital.
Every time he would think of his unfair circumstance, he hated everyone. Finally he began to hate himself too.
So, in all this hate, he became very pessimistic in everything. He made up his mind to commit suicide. Then one night he walked out of the door of the hospital.
He heard a hymn coming from somewhere.

Be not dismayed what ever betide, God will take care of you
Beneath his wings of love abide, God will take care of you.
God will take care of you, through every day, over all the way
He will take care of you; God will take care of you. Amen
The sound of this song started to drag him in. So where was this sound coming from; and he began to follow the sounds. This place was a tiny little church. In this church there was an old lady alone praying on her knees.
As soon as he saw this, this old man started to suddenly feel his heart getting hot. So even without thinking he sat down next to this old woman on her knees and he began to pray. His prayer was like this.
Lord, I have done so much wrong. I have strayed far from the Lord. Please forgive me my sins. Please have mercy on my soul.
His hands began to shake while he prayed and he began to weep.
He was praying so hard. He had been giving this prayer of repentance for some time and he was now beginning to feel comfort.
Even to himself, he felt different and strange. How could this be happening? Why has this happened to me? He doesn’t know where this strength has come from. So in his reality, he had been pushing so hard, that it has been pushing him down. His reality was that all his worry and concern had been pushing him down to the edge. It was so much that it drove him towards suicide. Then all of this had instantly disappeared. Then, “Under any circumstances, there is nothing I cannot do. I can try again.” He thought like this and began to live a new.
So, one of the first things he started to do was work as a garbage collector... Because he was 60 and had blown his fortune. There was no other place that would hire him.
He began to work hard at and save money as he collected the garbage.
He saved enough money to open a chicken restaurant. This was all kind of unexpected that he would be so famous for his chicken restaurant. Gradually he became more and more famous; to later have his little restaurant become a giant chain.
First he began to name his restaurants after his name, “Sanders Chicken”. And yes, this is now Kentucky Fried Chicken.
And then later he finally became a millionaire. With all his money he made donations to the church and did charitable works.
Why have I told you all about this story? People have so many concerns and worries that are always applying pressure on us. Lives are falling. In all this frustration, people like this are meeting Jesus. Just meeting Jesus. Any problem can somehow be solved.
Actually, today he has answered his special invitation. In all his troubles and frustration. So, he has completely proven this to be true.

I will give you an example of Heaven and Jesus.
What is heaven like? And what kind of people is able to go into heaven?
About all of this, is the story from Matthew 20:1-16
The land owner hired men to work in his vineyard. Early in the morning. Like today, he went out and picked people for work.
So he hired these people to work in his vineyard and promised them one denaros for a days work.
Then when he needed more workers. In the afternoon, he went and picked more to work. So he hired more people and promised them if they worked the rest of the day he would give them one denaros too. And he sent them to work in the vineyard.
He told them that they will also go to work in his vineyard. And later he found he needed more people still. and he went out again around 6pm and found yet others to work in his vineyard and said he would pay them what is right. Actually at about 6pm the day is almost finished and the sun was setting. So there is not a lot they can do in the vineyard because the sun was setting. Even though this, he hired the people and paid them one denaros.
If we look at this, the land owner may have calculated their wages wrong. But, the land owner, we can see is a truly amazing person.
He is not a person of counting and calculating. he is just one who counts by love and mercy. He is a very merciful person towards others... If he wasn’t this person how could he hire these people so late in the day and still give them one denaros.
The people that were hired in the morning were given one denaros and the people hired in the afternoon received one denaros. even the people hired in the evening were given one denaros. How can we describe this kind of person? He was very reasonable.
So if we think of the counting as the outside world, the people who started in the morning lost a lot. they got the worst deal, don’t you think?
I have been working since the early morning and working very hard, and I only got one denaros. Those guys come in late in the afternoon and work less, but they get one denaros too. even those who came in the evening, and started when it was near quitting time they still received one denaros. How can this be fair? This is very unfair.
But, if we look at this from the outside world, yes this is unfair. But if we look at this from inside the kingdom of heaven this is not unfair.
Think about it. What is this place, the kingdom of heaven to just go in and live and work.? Those who got in at the beginning and those who came in at the end of the day. Heaven is heaven. Anyone wants to go to heaven. this place is heaven.
Yes, this place is good place to get into early; it would be good to get in at the middle of the day and even good to go into at the end. But actually the best time to get in is the earliest. In the early morning. And to enjoy living their lives in heaven. Isn’t this the best time to get in?
So, the heaven in this story is different than what we might account for. Right here, this heaven, as we get into it and live, today our lord is especially inviting us in. He said, “Come to me” a special invitation for us all today.

Yes, forgive me but among the people of this church, at 5pm, people come to church late in their life. Yes they will enjoy their life in heaven. Yes, actually this is a good thing for you. You have done well.
I once and a while go to Chong Do, the Namsan prayer mountain. On the wall of the church there are some words I like very much. So I have them written down.
The title is, “I can’t go alone to that great and wonderful heaven” These words are written on this wall.
A hot heartfelt prayer and then to go find it. To give my love and to be strongly pulled back to church and kindly raised.

I think this is a very good word.
Before the spirit of the gospel, first it is necessary to pray very hard. Then the work is to love. Next we are pulled back to the church.
And the last step is that we are raised kindly in Christ.
Why do we have to do it this way?
Because heaven is great! Because the Lord has given us this special invitation. Our answer is this first step of our lives of happiness.
Actually, that is why we share the gospel. So we have guided so many people in front of Jesus Christ. And we have helped push them into heaven. It is not the building of a big church and a large congregation.

Yes I think that everyone who has been going to church for some time knows this story.
A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests.
The reason was because of his great love for them. He invited them to his great banquet by his mercy and love for them. So these people all had excuses and reasons to not go to this banquet. Finally the master told the servant like this.
Then the master told his servant, `Go out to the roads and country lanes and make them come in, so that my house will be full.
The master only focused on the people. And he extended his special invitation.
In the Old Testament, Isaiah says
Isaiah 55:1
1 "Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
The meaning here is connected to today’s scripture.
28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
So, right here is where we need to think deeply.
So, why did Isaiah the prophet invite the people.?
1 "Come, all you who are thirsty,
come to the waters;
And then why did Jesus say what he said?
28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
The point is one we should know and understand clearly, this is very important.
That is, for us to go into heaven and live in heaven. And, all the pressures and worries can be removed. and we can live our free lives in heaven. That is why we are invited by Jesus. We call these words of the bible “Our New Lives”
This means that we are born into this world full of sin. That makes us covered with sin as we live our lives. To us, the sin has severed us and now we have moved to our new lives. That is why Jesus tells us of this in today’s scripture.
Also, people who have their new lives can be free of worry and concern. These people are living their new lives. That is why Jesus calls to us in such a lovely and passionate way. Then he said, so that my house will be full
Romans 6:4
4We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
In the middle of last July, for three days I was on a revival at the Daegu Du-Lae Church. The pastor of that church and I ate together and talked. While I talked to him, I got a good idea from him.
This pastor focused mostly on college students. At this time in this generation, what is a good way to spread the gospel?
This is not something we can do once. This has to be divided into a couple steps.
And these steps have to be spread out over a few weeks. First, they have to find those who are Christians in their class. Then they have to have a fellowship so they can get to know one another.
The next week, they have to do the opposite. They have to find the non Christians. First they just have to find out. Don’t go to them and just say, let’s go to church.
They just have to find out about them. And those of other religions too.
Then the following week choose the ones he wants to spread the gospel to, among the non Christians. Yes, even this is something that they have to do from their own instincts. For the people who have to choose those people, pray quietly.
Then, about one month later, they should start a conversation with them. Just regular conversation. Call or meet in their favorite places. Some how and some where. There is no limit to overacting. They should start their conversations normal and honest.
When they start their conversation, it should take one or two weeks. And when they feel the time is right, ask them out to lunch. This is a natural and comfortable thing without pressure. So the important thing is not to forget the focus of brining them to church. Just focus on each other’s relationship. Yes, of course, just by making some small talk, talking about church or their faith lives. This is a possible way of talking. then as you meet them the next time, and maybe have some tea or watch a movie, or when eating together, just very smoothly tell a story of their lives. In my life how I have been guided by the Lord... Speak of your changed live full of happiness and comfort.
And when you get to the right time, pray for them. or pray together with them. or simply invite them to church... This is something you should be able to recognize.
About this time, it is a good time to start to spread the gospel. Do it slowly not to pressure them. But work your way into it.
I think, when I heard this story, this way is a very good way for our church. This leads to our church event. This new life evangelist week. I think this is a very good way to use this.

I truly wish that all the people of our congregation will pray hard and take part in this event of special invitation to new life and the great banquet.

So the important thing is not to forget the focus of brining them to church. Just focus on each other’s relationship. Yes, of course, just by making some small talk, talking about church or their faith lives. This is a possible way of talking. then as you meet them the next time, and maybe have some tea or watch a movie, or when eating together, just very smoothly tell a story of their lives. In my life how I have been guided by the Lord... Speak of your changed live full of happiness and comfort.
And when you get to the right time, pray for them. or pray together with them. or simply invite them to church... This is something you should be able to recognize.
About this time, it is a good time to start to spread the gospel. Do it slowly not to pressure them. But work your way into it.
I think, when I heard this story, this way is a very good way for our church. This leads to our church event. This new life evangelist week. I think this is a very good way to use this.

We are now coming up on the last Sunday of October we have decided to make this "the new life evangelist week". This will be done on a one to one basis. Yes I don’t mean bring someone from another church. I mean that we should try to bring a person who is a non Christian and introduce them to the lord, to help them meet with the lord. The most important thing is while we are doing this is that we are helping them into heaven so they can be able to taste the joy of heaven. I truly wish that all the people of our congregation will pray hard and take part in this event of special invitation to new life and the great banquet.
